One of the core services of Independent Living Resources is advocacy. Community and systems advocacy works to implement local and state policy changes making facilities and services accessible to people with disabilities. The Advocacy Committee examines advocacy issues and recommends actions to the ILR Board of Directors. The Advocacy Committee meets on the first Monday of each month, from 1:00-3:00 at ILR. All are welcome to attend and submit issues for the committee to consider.
We have an active advocacy team at ILR. We advocate on a variety of issues affecting people with disabilities. People are welcome to bring any issues they feel are important to the attention of our Advocacy team. The advocacy team meets on the first Monday of the month from 1:00 – 3:00 pm at ILR.
ILR assists people with disabilities in obtaining necessary support services and/or benefits in the community. Pro-active efforts to promote system wide changes that make it easier for all people with disabilities to live more independently are also on-going.
Information and Referral
ILR provides information on housing, transcription, employment, adaptive equipment, accessibility modifications, local and national resources, plus referrals to programs and services for people with disabilities.
Peer Support Counseling
Using the self-help model, people with disabilities work together with ILR's peer counselors to explore options and to solve problems.
ILR offers a TBI, Vision, and Women's support group.
